Pantology Services Guide for Portrait Models
Introduction
This guide has been prepared to introduce both new
and experienced models to photographic sessions at the Pantology Services Studio.
We take photographs for both business and pleasure. The studio is used for industrial
photography to generate money. We are building up the necessary computer equipment to
digitally manipulate images.
The studio and house are a completely non-smoking area but coffee and tea are always on
the go.
Most of the portrait sessions are for the mutual benefit of both the model and
photographer. Some of the portrait work may be used commercially. In these cases
we seek
permission from the model before submitting work. Models will be paid for any pictures
actually used.
Most of our amateur models are female
but we are delighted to photograph any interested
person who shows potential to produce good work.
If you are happy to take a standard session under the photographers direction
the session
is free. Models may select from the results any prints that they would like to keep in the
normal 6x4" size. The model may also select a couple of pictures to be enlarged at
our cost for inclusion in a portfolio or for framing.
If you require a specific set of pictures
we'll quote you a very competitive rate with no
charge if not satisfied. We work in colour
black/white print and transparency. We have a
lot of specialised equipment and will shoot almost anything you want.
Why not come and have a look around? - please ring first.
Before the session
We specialise in portrait `makeovers'. This means
we require you to arrive without applying make-up
but do bring it all with you.
If you have long hair which can be dressed different ways
come with it freshly washed and
down. Bring what ever you need to fix it up.
Decide if you would like to try some full length shots otherwise only a variety of tops
are required. At least one off-the-shoulder or bikini top is desirable.
If you have any favourite pictures bring them along as a sample of what you would like.
Select clothes which are both varied in style and colour and in which you feel that you
look your best. These can be Vogue and/or very casual if that's how you are! Bring at
least 5 changes. Make sure the clothes are spotlessly clean and pressed properly if
required. Nail polish should be freshly done before arrival at the studio.
If you wear a variety of jewellery
bring it. If you ever wear a hat
bring it. If you
hobby allows bring some simple props to hold eg violin
teddy bear
relevant book or
anything you fancy.
If you have favourite CD's or tapes
bring them and we'll listen to them while working.
If you want to bring a friend
that's fine and can often be very helpful during the
session but there will be a bit of hanging around.
We have plenty of privacy for changing clothes.
If you wear contact lenses they will have to come out for the actual picture taking.
On arrival
We'll shoot you as you really are! Just for the
record and to show the contrast with the proper session pictures.
Show the photographer the clothes you have brought so that we can set up the appropriate
studio backgrounds. Make-up
fix hair and change into the first outfit.
The session
Normally we take 2-3 hours
but it will depend
greatly on how long you take to look your best!
Pictures
These are usually ready in a week. We use a
professional lab in Coventry
who have been extremely reliable in the past.
Safety
Photographic studios are filled with expensive and
potentially dangerous equipment. It is important that all visitors treat the working
environment as a place to move around carefully and to be aware that some items are hot
and can be moving. In addition some set-ups may be balanced and a small push can do a lot
of damage.
